The boys received a sample of Axe Clix shower gel in the mail. The Maker, attracted by the shiny black packaging and bold graphics, asked me what it was for.

“Well,” I told him, turning over the package to show him the instructions, “first you shower, then girls want to hang around you.” Silently I considered the overwhelming number of times I have said this to my oldest son.

The Maker, age six, understood immediately. “Ohhhhh! I get it!” he cried, and immediately started stripping for a bath.
