The Maker’s “To Do” List

the maker's list

And you thought your To Do list was daunting. I just happened to see this floating around the kitchen, and was amazed at the things a 9 year old needs to get done every day.

  • fold close
  • eat tomata
  • eat ornge
  • play computer
  • eat stuf
  • play with friende
  • staring at Isaac & mom

I think the staring at me part was an afterthought; it is squeezed in there kinda tight. I prefer to think he expected to spend time gazing at me thinking, “What a marvelous mother I have. How grateful I am! I wonder what I could do to let her know how much I appreciate all she does for me,” and so on.

Some say I live in a fantasy world.

5 ways to Eat Fast Food and Still Cut Carbs

It’s good to start by eating less fast food, but even when you find yourself at the local burger, chicken, or waffle joint, there are ways to keep from loading up on insulin-jacking, straight-to-fat-storage carbohydrates.
1. Order protein, eat the guts
If you avoid the bun that comes with your standard burger, dog, or chicken filet, you’ll [...]

The Ice’s Cat Gene

The Ice’s Cat Gene from Lisa Creech Bledsoe on Vimeo.
This is one of our family’s favorite stories about The Ice. We’ve told it so many times that now he tells it. I added a little bit here, and also let Henry the cat have his say. Oh, and it’s actually true that he said the [...]

Breakfast of Superheroes

Okay, people. You need to get more protein into your mornings, and ease back on the Lucky Charms. Anyway, you’re wasting money on the Lucky Charms when all you do is eat the marshmallows and leave the oat-y bits. So save those for a dessert and listen up.
You work, play, and train hard, so you [...]

Fuel Your Sport

This is a very typical day of fuel for me.
I eat oatmeal almost every day; I buy organic rolled oats, the kind you’re supposed to slow cook. However, since I hate goo, I never slow cook them; I just boil a half cup of water, add a half cup of oats, turn down the heat [...]

Five Forbidden Foods

Now and then people ask me what I eat during boxing training. But I don’t have a training diet different from my regular diet. I follow The Zone, which is primarily a way of eating that controls your insulin production. Since that sounds like a complicated answer (and it is, a bit) I often find [...]

Breakfast of Champions

March 22, 2008

This was the Maker’s version of breakfast earlier this week. Cinnamon toast (which I didn’t know could be improved upon) with sprinkles.

Breakfast Curiosity

March 16, 2008

Saturday morning I got up to make sausages and pancakes for me and the five guys in my house (ages 41, 14, 13, 10, and 7). I set out six napkins with six forks on top. At the end of the meal, one fork remained untouched (??) and five napkins had never been used. I [...]

The Pancake Scheduling System

Last Saturday morning I rocked the house with my (only slightly singed or gooey, take your pick) made-from-scratch (um, I mixed the milk and raspberries into the Bisquick) pancakes. The boys are not particularly snooty about their pancakes, thus I was hailed by all as the undisputed (and uncontested — no one ELSE wants [...]

I Got the Boys Candy Snakes Rather Than Candy Rabbits This Year

April 8, 2007

I don’t know, I was charmed by their predatory nature. Anyhow, rabbits have been done. Why aren’t there a plethora of chocolate creatures to choose from by now? I want a chocolate meerkat. And just imagine the white/dark chocolate possibilities! Zebras, skunks, killer whales. Little Stevie Wonder/Paul McCartney [...]
