Seth in the fort Isaac slept in last night

Sunday night the Maker had a friend over to spend the night. The Ice decided to strike out on his own, and built this fort in his Dad’s office in order to have his own space. In the forground you can see a DVD player (he watched “Enchanted” and the husband and I listened to him laughing and giggling late into the night as he replayed his favorite parts), and an empty Smarties wrapper. The Ice was SET, man. The cat liked it, and so did the Maker, who asked to pose for the camera.

be very afraid

Here’s what $1.50 gets you from the neighborhood ice cream truck these days. It doesn’t even look real, does it? Get this: the flavors in this ice cream travesty are fruit punch and cotton candy (rather than radioactive waste and bloody horror, which you might have guessed, even if you were stone blind). I can’t [...]

I Got the Boys Candy Snakes Rather Than Candy Rabbits This Year

I don’t know, I was charmed by their predatory nature. Anyhow, rabbits have been done. Why aren’t there a plethora of chocolate creatures to choose from by now? I want a chocolate meerkat. And just imagine the white/dark chocolate possibilities! Zebras, skunks, killer whales. Little Stevie Wonder/Paul McCartney duos. My inner child felt pretty smug [...]

Supersnack Me: A Rant

WHY is it that every single event that my children attend must involve a snack? Every basketball game, every bible study, every special class… Even when they are over at their friends’ houses they have open access to food at all times. I have two friends who keep a refrigerator fully stocked with juices, sodas, [...]

the first thing my boys bought with their allowances

Candy. Duh. But we put some rules around that (like you can only purchase one “serving” but not a whole bag, etc.) and they were able to move on to other things.

not just for dinner anymore

I JUST noticed that the Swanson’s pot pie is marketed as “great for snacking.” Says it right on the back of the box. So, is everybody else but me treating these admittedly wonderful little gut buckets of salt (760 milligrams), fat (23 grams) and calories (400) as a “snack”? Here I was thinking a Betty [...]

Pink Sunken Bathtubs, Snakes and Chiclets

Some of my first memories are of my grandfather’s “swell sixties” suburban house. In addition to the heated in-ground pool, I remember a fabulous pink-tiled sunken bath in a large room fronted by a glass wall overlooking the pool. My uncles kept a three foot long boa constrictor in a large glass aquarium in that [...]

fan enough for both of us

The Husband loves Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Everyone who knows him is aware of this. So whenever Reese’s comes out with yet a new form of this candy – say, “inside out” (peanut butter on the outside, chocolate on the inside) Peanut Butter Cups, or Valentine’s day PBC’s in the shape of little hearts, or [...]
