My Birthday Month Wish List

Get back, girl, I'm the birthday queen

November is my birthday: all Glowbird (that’s my Twitter name), all the time. I even have a hashtag that has nothing to do with mustaches or writing novels: My hashtag is #nanoglomo, and it stands for National November is Glowbird’s [Birthday] Month. It can be affixed to your tweets as you discuss your plans; that way I can find them and advise you as needed.

And even though I have all that I ever wanted, and far more than I’ll ever need, I’ve posted a wish list in case you’d like to join me in celebrating.

1. Mail Art

You know how fabulous it feels to get a Real Live Handwritten Letter in that little box outside your house or apartment? Mail art is even wonderfuller. I love mail art. I have a girlfriend who specializes in it, and she sent me mail art last year on my birthday and got me hooked. Now I’m spoilt. Well, I was spoilt before that, but now I’m spoilt-er.

It’s top on my list this year: mail art! Any category! Use sharpies, sew on it, include photos, add scratch-n-sniff stickers, fold it into origami, fingerpaint, make it glow, let it pop up, give it LED lighting, cut and glue, draw, write a funny poem, make it like Wired’s Return to Sender contest, whatever, just please send me (or get your friends to send me) mail art! My address: 1225 Crescent Green Dr, Suite 115, Cary NC, 27518. (This is my work address; I’m hopeful that my coworkers will notice.)

2. New Boxing Playlists

I listen to my boxing playlists an average of three to five times a week, and I do get tired of some of them. Typically my oldest son keeps me in new metal, but I am currently in dire need of suggestions. I enjoy lists like we used to enjoy albums in the Old Days (uphill in the snow both ways); I consider how the list begins, moves my workout along, and cools me down. Sometimes they have themes. The arrangement and interplay of artists and tunes on a truly excellent playlist is an art form, and I know you have the skillz. Face-melting, atom-rearranging music is not an option, it’s a requirement. Please post your playlists below in the comments (or on your blog, with a link for me)!

3. Apple Recipes

Every year I ask for or make an apple pie for my birthday, because that’s my favorite. But it doesn’t mean that’s ALL I want. I love apples, and that’s why I have a November birthday. I want ‘em every kind of way. Ok, not every way, there are guidelines: I prefer things that are not overly sweet (my apple pies have little or no sugar), sometimes healthy (I eat all kinds of whole grains!), and a recipe that I really like will have plenty of identifiable apple flavor and pieces, not just “hints of apple”. This birthday gift request is NOT JUST BAKED GOODS, send cocktail recipes, main dish ideas, raw food meals, unusual concoctions, anything! Post links, recipes, photos, etc. I can’t wait!

4. BBQ Recommendations

Ok, I know this is a touchy subject, but I do love barbeque, and I need some new places to try. Carolina Barbeque in Garner NC is a staple in our family, but I would love to try more but I don’t want to go about it in a haphazard way. I grew up on Memphis BBQ (primarily the Rendezvous‘ dry rub ribs), but I love anything vinegary and spicy too. I’m not a ketchup fan at all, and don’t like sweet BBQ either. Where are the places near Raleigh NC with interesting atmosphere, compelling history, or just plain fabulous BBQ? Please leave your recommendations in the comments.

5. Follow This Blog

If you haven’t already done so, I would be ridiculously happy if you were willing to click “Follow this blog” over on the left sidebar in the Networked Blogs widget. It doesn’t do ANYthing at all except make me feel absolutely thrilled that someone is reading this blog. And please allow me to say it: thanks so much for reading. I’m very glad you stopped by. You make a lot of difference in my world.

Happy birthday, everyone!
