Post image for Power Ballad Love Song Playlist

My cool friend @renewabelle has had some interesting jobs. She did a (paid!) stint as a chainsaw-wielding maniac, has some bartending and comedy in her history, and she did a little bit of basement radio station DJ-ing at one point as well. I put together this playlist from one of her audio tracks from those days.

The list has a “Love and Lack” kind of theme, and many of these bands are big-hair metal rockers from back in the day. I probably have a few of them wrong; I was scribbling notes as I listened and worked. It’s a solid list, although it devolves a bit toward the end, partly because she was taking requests from listeners.

If you’re looking for some 80′s era power romance ballads, you’ll find some gems on this playlist. The one I’m playing over and over again right now is Fly to the Angels by Slaughter. I’ve embedded a few more in the playlist below. Rock on, dudes.

Fly to the Angels / Slaughter
Higher / Firehouse
Miles Away / Winger
Waiting for a Girl Like You / Foreigner
Heaven Isn’t Too Far Away / Warrant
Fly to the Angels / Slaughter
Still Loving You / Scorpions
Heaven & Hell / Black Sabbath
Only Time Will Tell / Poison
Every Rose Has It’s Thorn / Bon Jovi
Don’t Know What You Got Till It’s Gone / Cinderella
Bringing On the Heartbreak / Def Leppard
Is This Love / Whitesnake
House of Pain / Faster Pussycat
Without You / Hinder
When I See You Smile / Bad English
I Won’t Forget You / Poison
Missing You / John Waite
Open Arms / Journey
Don’t Close Your Eyes / Kix
Love / Def Leppard
Love of a Lifetime / Firehouse
More Than Words / Extreme
Sometimes She Cries / Warrant
It’s an All Night Thing / Temple of the Dog

Arse-Kicking Playlist

This just in, via @renewabelle, a woman who knows how to bring some tuneage. Since she made and delivered this list through iTunes (I didn’t expect y’all to actually PURCHASE me tunes, only suggest them, but this is freakalicious, thank you very much) we learned that iTunes will tell you if the other person has [...]

November is my birthday: all Glowbird (that’s my Twitter name), all the time. I even have a hashtag that has nothing to do with mustaches or writing novels: My hashtag is #nanoglomo, and it stands for National November is Glowbird’s [Birthday] Month. It can be affixed to your tweets as you discuss your plans; that [...]

New Playlist for Boxing Training

One of my super-tough MMA chick friends (who will box with me periodically and who is helping me learn ju jitsu: fist bump Junie!) sent me a few suggestions for refreshing my quickly-getting-tiresome Shuffle playlist for training. Her main additions to my existing soup were: Nine Inch Nails, Head Like a Hole Alice in Chains, [...]

The bottom 20 all-time worst songs

The original cover for Rick Dees’ Disco Duck I know this is going to be hotly disputed because there are just so many bad songs out there. But I had to make a stab at it anyway. Many of mine are bad because I just hate really sappy songs. Still, I eagerly await your corrections [...]

A break-up post

Sigh. I once loved making playlists. I carefully chose themes, burned discs, and kept the glove compartment in my car full. I posted lots of my playlists here. But then I met Paste. They carefully chose themes, burned discs, and kept my glove compartment full for me. I felt cared for. Then I met Pandora for [...]

r boyz rock

I’ve been thinking about needing a new playlist for my boys (ages 13, nearly 11, and freshly who are constantly hungry for rock and roll. I’m trying to give them a rock education as well as entertain. They’ll thank me later, won’t they? Of course they will, or I will refuse to send them to [...]

song of the week

The whole family has been singing this song, called “First Day of My Life” by Bright Eyes all week. It was featured on my Day Two, Still Hard playlist that I made several months ago (and forgot to blog; now corrected). The video is wonderful, too!
