Aftershock

Saturday Aftershock played Connolly’s in Cary, NC, and since it was an early (7 to 11) outdoor show I took all the boys to see their dad’s gig. This is a fairly rare occurrence for them since most of the Husband’s gigs are very late at night in smoky bars and not ideal for the boys. And even though I had to miss my own boxing team at a huge fight event on the fairgrounds, I was glad to give the boys this opportunity.

The hat, yeah. It got passed back and forth between the Ice (below) and his big brother, and all the tween girls loved it. The Maker (below, background) was oblivious to most of the boy/girl chemistry going on but had a blast running crazy and dancing. It cracked me up to see all three of them singing the words to every song from “Walk This Way” to “Pour Some Sugar on Me”. Of course, it’s not just that they know the words to these songs, they sing and play them too. The Ice on drums and vocals, the First on lead guitar, Dad on bass, and the Maker (who is a keyboard player) mostly just watching with shining eyes for now. It won’t be long before they learn some Journey, then the keys will have a chance to get the spotlight. Meanwhile, I’m thrilled with all my rock boys.

Oh, and word up to all you Manic Panic hair fans: the Ice says purple is next for his tresses.

no suspenders needed

The chain the boys did not need for their DIY nunchucku was quickly appropriated by the Maker, who showed it off to me this morning in this fashionable and utilitarian application. He also carefully explained each tool in the new blue pocketknife (a much-cherished Christmas gift from his oldest brother — an exact replica of [...]

It Sort of Defeats the Point

I know the Maker’s pants are waaaaay too big when I see he took them off for his bath (and left them on the bathroom floor) without ever unbuckling his belt.

Tween Dress Code

The First informed me that there are precisely six categories of stereotypes proudly (or shamefully) enforced in the tween set these days: 1. Preps, identified by their “dressy” clothes. The rule is that you can dress up periodically without retaining any stigma that might otherwise be associated with this moniker. 2. Geeks, who “just wear [...]
