I just finished doing the Ice’s hair again; he’s pretty pleased with it. He had wanted it done for picture day at school but we didn’t pull it off in time, so this is for his birthday which is coming up in a week or two. You can read about the first time the Ice dyed his hair here, and you can see what color he did it for his first school dance here. Oh, and here’s a blue head one.

This time the color is Tish and Snooky’s Manic Panic Ultra Violet, mixed with the last of our Jerome Russell Punky Colour Red Wine #1442. We love the Punky Colour because it has great staying power and it smells good. This one is appropriately grapey.

Looks pretty rock star, doesn’t it?

What I Did On My Summer Vacay

It was rather last minute: we had to drop off two of the boys near Asheville NC for summer camp, and I asked the Husband if he would be willing to stay an extra day to see Biltmore. I researched B&B’s, picked my favorite, he booked us, and we were off. We stayed at the [...]

This is a very typical day of fuel for me. I eat oatmeal almost every day; I buy organic rolled oats, the kind you’re supposed to slow cook. However, since I hate goo, I never slow cook them; I just boil a half cup of water, add a half cup of oats, turn down the [...]

puffed cheese toasts from the monastery

January 16, 2008

I have this marvelous, crumbling and yellowed cookbook called From a Monastery Kitchen: a practical cookbook of vegetarian recipes for the four seasons complete from soups to desserts with breads. A great title, don’t you agree? The cookbook is compiled of Brother Victor Avila’s recipes, and is just crammed with little bits of wisdom, quotes, [...]

The Pancake Scheduling System

Last Saturday morning I rocked the house with my (only slightly singed or gooey, take your pick) made-from-scratch (um, I mixed the milk and raspberries into the Bisquick) pancakes. The boys are not particularly snooty about their pancakes, thus I was hailed by all as the undisputed (and uncontested — no one ELSE wants to [...]

Well, it isn’t a dinner PLAN

July 25, 2007

I love the day after a birthday. Today I came home with great anticipation, and lo, a slice had survived. I’m realistic: I live in a house with four men. I figure I had approximately a one in fifty shot at a second serving of last night’s birthday cake. Well, I played the birthday cake [...]
