Bloody Mary FTW

If you’re in need of a little liquid therapy you need to drop by my Mom’s for some of her homemade Bloody Mary loving kindness. You’ll have to bring your own vodka (she’s allergic), but this zingy mix is going to rock your brunch whether you remember the Grey Goose or not. She says back when I was a kid she used to call it “Tomato Cocktail” and serve it virgin at parties.

For pete’s sake, don’t adulterate this with cheap vodka, people, even if you’re drinking it out of PBR cans. I’m trying to do you a favor. And she is too, sharing this recipe with you.

Lisa’s Mom’s Bloody Mary Mix

  • 46 oz of tomato juice
  • 1 cup fresh-squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • tabasco sauce
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon horseradish
  • 1/2 tablespoon worcestershire
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1/4 – 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

She says to make it the day before and let it sit in the fridge until you’re ready to use it.

    Perhaps it’s time for me to figure out where we could hold a Bloody Mary tweetup, huh? I mean, my Mom would love to host it, but I’m wondering if there are any local joints that mix a good one…
