You Can Do Anything Too

Lisa Creech Bledsoe: In the ring from The Garner Citizen on Vimeo.

Rachel Healy is a quiet, elegant woman. She has understated magnetism that pulls you in and makes you tell her everything.

Or maybe I just run my mouth constantly about boxing and she’s kind enough to not only listen, but also to (gasp) publish what I’m running on about. Say hello to my new BFF!

Rachel is the multi-talented web editor of the Garner Citizen, just across from the coffee shop down the road from me, and here’s a link to the front page story she wrote about this whole crazy woman boxing thing. Get this: in order to write the story, she actually came and did some boxing with me. Not just a class, either — lots of people do that. This fearless woman got in the ring, too. You rock, Rache!

And thanks for helping me tell the story.

Thanks, Lisa… I really enjoyed learning more about what you do, and walked away with such a respect for your dedication to the sport. Seriously, 3+ hours on a Friday night, not to mention all the other days? And thanks for being so accommodating — you never groaned when I said, “I have a few more questions.” You’re the best.

I’m also glad that I could make use of Ken Hall’s great pics — I think he did a fantastic job of capturing your skill and enthusiasm (not to mention your very toned guns :)).
.-= Rachel´s last blog ..rachealy: @imikewilliams @ellenlynch @_MattWelch_ That works for me. I don’t think I can pass up pbly my only chance to see it on the big screen. =-.

This was just so much fun, wasn’t it? Next we’ll get our mutual friend Jess in there and there will be THREE Garner-connected women kicking ass and taking names.

I really, enjoy reading your post about boxing but I was wondering if I could ask a few questions?

Does your family ever get worried you’ll get hurt? Have they ever watched you fight?

What is the worst injury you ever had?

What is your win loss record sparring? Did you ever knock or get knocked out?

Also my mom boxed for a while and boxed barefoot because she could grip the mat better with her toes. Have you ever boxed barefoot?

Are you going to try to go amateur or pro?

Hi, Geoff, thanks for reading and commenting. Your questions are all good ones; so good that I’m going to write a post addressing them. Watch for it this week!
