"Did not" Christmas Vacation

I’m trying to recall if I’ve ever had two weeks and three weekends off in a row. I don’t think I have, and this one was incredible. Here’s the short list of what I did not do:

  • did not travel
  • did not cook or eat any huge meals
  • did not box for a week
  • did not go to any Aftershock gigs
  • did not send out Christmas cards
  • did not get a Christmas tree
  • did not spend too much for Christmas
  • did not drink much alcohol
  • did not make New Year’s resolutions
  • did not send or answer email
  • did not blog
  • did not do (or stress over) any work-related stuff

For contrast, here’s what this freed me up for:

  • learned to sew
  • sent my first mail art
  • enjoyed oceans of hot tea
  • read eight or ten novels
  • rented five movies
  • drew, cut, and pulled prints for two linocuts
  • re-read Zone Perfect Meals in Minutes; began shifting my diet
  • enjoyed my family
  • averaged 10 hours of sleep a night

I have to say, it was awesome and I highly recommend the “nots” in particular. What did you not do this year?

Sounds like a good trade off to me! Although I have yet to learn how to disconnect. I may give it a try. 🙂

I do have a New Years Resolution…my goal is to return my high school weight of 185 by June. Wish me luck!

Good for you, Geoff. How much will you have to lose?

…seemed to have the opposite of yours.

    * travelled unexpectedly due to hugely pregnant niece (who is now a mom!)
    * cooked big honkin' feast in conjunction with sister-in-law (and ate most of it too)
    * rode bike for last 5 days in a row
    * saw nephew's band play in Houston (just wait 'til your kids discover "screamo" music, oh joy!)
    * only did Christmas cards this year, no presents
    * donated my "Charlie Brown" artificial tree to the office
    * spent Christmas nite on brother's couch since I was no shape to drive
    * managed to tweet, flickr, youtube, myspace & blogspot at some point

Woah. You stayed busy, dude. Do all Texans move as fast as you do? I feel tired just reading your list.

And yeah, my 13 y.o. has discovered “screamo”. He tries not to put it on any of the playlists he makes for me (and he makes me some good ones), but he tells me he likes it because he can’t sing so well, either.

So, like you, I’ll be showing up to his gigs for moral support if he ends up in a screamo band. I survived the punk era, at least I’ll know someone this time.

I weigh 220 at the moment. It is the freshman 15, which I never lost. And the computer dude 20. I will keep you updated!

I did NOT take my tree down until Sunday. The lights were really pretty this year, and I wanted to keep seeing them. And I’m SO EXCITED that you stayed offline. Sounds like you didn’t even go through withdrawal.
