digital false alarm

Last week I heard the First, age 12, discussing his YouTube video upload of “Runescape Ownage” (as in “Dude, I totally owned that level!”). I got really excited, thinking that one of the coming-of-age-in-the-new-millennium milestones had just been reached, and that he had finally learned not JUST how to record online gaming action with a hypercam, but also how to upload the footage to a YouTube account.

Well, we’re not quiiiite there yet. The truth of the matter, which was hard to extract from the First who wished he’d done all that, was that his older, wiser-in-the-ways-of-the-internet friend did it for him.

I felt sort of like a pregnant woman at the first appearance of Braxton-Hicks contractions. It’s not really time for the baby to be born, but you know it will happen eventually. I’m not an otaku mom, but I suspect all my descendants will be anti-aliased.
