Rock Boys

Saturday Aftershock played Connolly’s in Cary, NC, and since it was an early (7 to 11) outdoor show I took all the boys to see their dad’s gig. This is a fairly rare occurrence for them since most of the Husband’s gigs are very late at night in smoky bars and not ideal for the boys. And even though I had to miss my own boxing team at a huge fight event on the fairgrounds, I was glad to give the boys this opportunity.

The hat, yeah. It got passed back and forth between the Ice (below) and his big brother, and all the tween girls loved it. The Maker (below, background) was oblivious to most of the boy/girl chemistry going on but had a blast running crazy and dancing. It cracked me up to see all three of them singing the words to every song from “Walk This Way” to “Pour Some Sugar on Me”. Of course, it’s not just that they know the words to these songs, they sing and play them too. The Ice on drums and vocals, the First on lead guitar, Dad on bass, and the Maker (who is a keyboard player) mostly just watching with shining eyes for now. It won’t be long before they learn some Journey, then the keys will have a chance to get the spotlight. Meanwhile, I’m thrilled with all my rock boys.

Oh, and word up to all you Manic Panic hair fans: the Ice says purple is next for his tresses.

ROCK OUT YOU GUYS!!! Awesome that you got to see and hear an outdoor concert…with a really cool band to rock out too. I remember my first outdoor concert was for Sponge in a Point State park in Providence RI…I was 16 awesome times! I got sucked into a mosh pit…lost my glasses and bloodied my lip…but it was so much fun. Great memories. Sounds like you all had a great time.

To the Ice: I am digging the purple…and feeling it. If you take requests…I’m a blue fan if that strikes your fancy after your hair grows out. Sonic the Hedgehog blue…to be precise. Anyhow…just do it dude! It will be awesome!

We have quite a few really good outdoor concerts, with the biggest being “Street Scene” in downtown San Diego. My favorite new band played “MGMT” – Please give this a listen…I think you can rock out to this. We dance to this at every opportunity: http://www.itsjonsalmon.com/mgmt_kids/

    Great song!

Later guys! Have a great remainder of the school year and an awesome beginning of the summer. Maybe y’all can make it out my way for some sun and surf?

Hi, Geoff — Here’s a link to the Ice’s blue hair experiment:http://www.flickr.com/photos/glowbird/2539102433/ He was particularly pleased with it. He’s done most of the colors by now I think! Here’s a photo of all three of them with orange, pink, and green hair, too: http://www.flickr.com/photos/glowbird/422612496/

    I know, weird. But fun!

    Hey Lisa,

Nah…! Not weird at all; more like rad. I am of the theory that people are WAY too consumed with outward appearance. As long as the person is good to others, and good to themselves…everything is icing on the cake. And to be honest, if the Ice or any other kid wanted to paint their nails, dye their hair an unnatural color, get an earring.. now is the time to do it and have fun with it. Because when you are an adult, your options become limited. If I walked into work with a green mohawk (which I will do I my last day…btw) I would be yelled at and sent home. When you are a kid…not rules (except for Mom and Dad) and that is cool.

Cool dude..ROCK ON! Can’t wait to see the results.

BTW..did you get a chance to enjoy the song? If not no biggie…I enjoy sharing music I run across.

    Geoff 🙂
