Time Machine List

I was pretty excited when I discovered this list and saw that it began with a time machine.

Or machiene, as the case may be.

I was suddenly thrumming with excitement and ready to take in the long-sought magic and make my move — most likely forward, I decided — in time. Even seeing “wings” next sounded good to me. Time machines and wings are naturally connected!

“House” and “skates” threw me off, however, and I definitely wasn’t ready for “army guys.” And “a logo”? What the hell is going on here?

Cardboard, cardboard, cardboard. What does anyone need with all that? Do they even make cardboard silverware? The “hankerchief” made me want to cry, and I lost interest before laptop. The numbers marched on, however, so I guessed I just wasn’t seeing the whole picture.

Naturally I consulted the Maker, age 11, the sole person living in my house most likely to immediately understand anything marked with time machine, army guys, and… hankies.

Sure enough, he was in the know. “It’s all stuff I want to make,” he acknowledged.

I’m for it.

And I’d like to politely request the time machine remain at the top of the list.

Oh, how I adore that child. And you. I have a theoretical question about going forward in a time machine, but right now we’re in the middle of birthing a baby so I’ll have to get back to you with that.

Just read your post about the burial, then spent nearly an hour cruising through the other blogs you read, which are also fascinating. You are one of the coolest friends I have, even if you have given up zombies.

When it’s built, come and get me before you blast off.

But if he does the cardboard pizza first, you can probably get summa that where you live, right? Hee!

Where you live, darlin’, not where I live. 😉

Zombiehood — you’d be surprised how upsetting it is to those closest to me when they see my zombie pics. Revulsed, they are.

I don’t know; I’d worry about them army guys, if I were you. Taking over and shit.

I told her not to force war toys upon those boys of hers, but would she listen?

Let me just ask you where in the world they get this stuff? I have not purchased army guys for my kids but I absolutely step on them while barefoot and become periodically crippled. They are in my house!

What a creamy, dreamy voice Dean Martin has! Singing about you, Amy Scheer! And your Amy, too, MJ. Creamy dreamy people sing songs about Marys, too. Not so much about Lisas. Sigh.

I’ll take that–people singing about people with my name.

Once I was stopped by an anti-war protester who was handing out little army men with some message attached, a visual aid to her activism. I asked for two. She thought I was really sincere, when in reality, I wanted to make sure both my boys were provided for.

Lisa, I think you can count Johnny Mathis singing “Mona Lisa” as a Lisa song. Well, you might have to change it to Moaning Lisa, and then what you’ve got yourself is a zombie song.

Whatever I do, they just keep turning up. It’s not my fault.

I saw the original Time Machine movie on afternoon TV when I was about 11. Aside from the teeniest tiniest crush I developed on Rod Taylor, I remembering spending days and days sorting through what my future and past would be like if I wandered the world in a time machine.

All I can say is you have one fabulous 11 year old!!!

Periodically I think, “Oh wait! What about all the stuff I’ll mess up, wandering around in the future?” But then I remember the whole multiple universe thing and I plow happily ahead. 🙂
