World Champion Boxer Katie Taylor Steals the Commercial

Once in a while I get an advertising inquiry in my email inbox.

It’s nice, on the one hand, to feel like one’s blog is out there enough to be noticed, but even nicer than that is the fact that this is my personal blog and I get to do whatever I like here.

And here’s the thing: I love women’s boxing. You may have guessed this about me. Katie Taylor (whom I’ve posted about before) rocks my world. I don’t care about the drink advertised at the end of this video (never heard of it before, in fact), and I don’t even know who the musicians are, even if they are blowing down the house in this piece.

But Katie? Katie damn well steals this show. Didn’t you want to play it over again just to catch Katie’s rapid fire knockout straights again? What I wouldn’t have given to be in the warehouse when they were shooting this — don’t you know those guys were slammed over by Taylor?

So yes, nice advertising rep who contacted me: I’ll run this video. But I don’t need the special video player or payment for every view from the UK. I have to say, along with my across-the-pond sister Niamh at Inspiring Sports Women, we run these things because we love the boxers. We love the inspiring women. We’re shouting for you, Katie!

Take it all the way, girlfriend.

They should have lingered on her more. Darn these quick, audience-has-no-attention-span cuts.

This was a great one. I love the staccato of the drums. Nice piece.

It’s great to see her isn’t it? Very excited that she is getting recognition outside our little boxing world!
And thanks for the shout-out! I did get offered to link-up blah-blah but not interested, they got enough promo from me already I was happy to run the pics and videos.
    How’s your training?!

Last night I had 12 rounds of (relatively light — mostly less-exerienced boxers were at the gym) sparring. Today I run, and tomorrow (Sunday) will be my last serious training day before the fight. That one will be hard sparring with my trainer Jay Fury. This last week has been incredibly difficult, with no breaks in training, but I feel good about heading into a week of rest before the fight. Over and over again I’m reminded of how much I love this sport. Love it.

Except for the waiting period before you get in the ring. That part I hate. Don’t you?

Hell yeah! That was always the moment I though, well it’s not too late to leave, the door is over there, who would notice?!! Shame and pride kept me there more than a few times but somehow when you touch the ropes to hop over, all that fear just melts away. And the adrenaline starts pumping.
Your regime sounds good, very solid organisation. Rest is so important, have to be fresh! Go for it!!!

(I know I already said this, but I soooo loved your Hat-tipping Angel post. I’m still thinking about it! I think it will stick with me for a long time…)

What’s your next big project, Margaret? Are you working on a book? Would love to hear…

I have a novel in progress, but it’s been slow going. That will change in a few weeks when I head to Virginia Beach with a bunch of writers for a retreat. I desperately need it to get me back in the groove.

A novel! That’s a huge work to undertake — feels like major league baseball in a universe filled with sand-lot ball players. The notion of a writer’s retreat sounds absolutely heavenly. I hope they feed you.

Did I just say “I hope they feed you”? Weird how that thought popped out. I guess because shopping/cooking takes energy that you could be putting into writing? Or because I’m hungry. 🙂

I hope it goes really well for you!

One of the writers loves to shop and cook and handles all of that for us, God bless her soul. 🙂
